Campaign to save historic Pontefract building

Nathan Garbutt on the future of the Counting House in Pontefract

The Counting House in my hometown of Pontefract is reputedly the oldest building in Pontefract and dates back to the 14th century. The building was restored in the 1980s and is now a public house.

However, over recent times controversy about its future hangs in the balance.

Malcolm Lister, a retired architect, has restored many old buildings and owns quite a few in order to save them. This includes the Counting House in Pontefract.

His efforts are thwarted at every turn to do something useful with this 14th Century beauty.

God forbid that Wakefield Metropolitan District Council want to demolish it? They say it is not safe but it is, efforts to do repair work are hindered time and again.

UKIP are supporting Malcolm, please sign the petition to save this beautiful building.
