UKIP Yorkshire & North Lincolnshire MEP, Mike Hookem was in Rotherham on Saturday (21st January 2017), supporting the UKIP candidates in two council by-elections.
The by-elections came following the resignation of one UKIP councillor, Ian Finnie, who took the principled stance of standing down due to his changed circumstances; and the conviction of a Labour councillor for sexual assault on a colleague.
Speaking of the campaign, Mike Hookem said, It was a great day's campaigning in the Brinsworth and Catcliffe By-election, and we have two excellent candidates. The reaction on the doorstep was very positive, and I'm sure we can continue the history of success that we have in Rotherham.
UKIP candidate, Steve Webster was keen to thank all the volunteers who turned out on Saturday, despite the cold weather. Speaking after the action day, Steve said, "I thank everyone for the amazing support I have had from both the branch and members across the region. By electing a UKIP councillor, we can change this ward for the better, with a UKIP councillor who will work for the people and listen and act on issues important to local people.
